Redevelopment Study: USPS
Redevelopment Study of the United States Post Office Property Downtown Winter Park, Florida
Study Purpose and Mission
In March 2001, the city requested planning begin to explore design ideas to expand downtown’s Central Park. This process has included at least fifteen (15) public meetings, had twenty (20) appointed Citizen reviewers, the City Commission, Mayor, hundreds of citizens, and twelve (12) private Winter Park citizens’ group presentations provide guidance in reviewing the Central Park Master Plan led by the Central Park Task Force. From this input, a “Central Park Master Plan” was created by Michael Design Associates (MDA), Planning and Landscape Architect Consultant.
In consideration of the close proximity and strategic placement of the United States Postal Service (USPS) property adjacent to Central Park and north Park Avenue, ACi was retained by the city, as its Program Manager, to collectively evaluate the USPS property as a highly desirable location to incorporate a “civic-minded” perspective of re-development of the USPS property. ACi’s scope of work, working closely with the City, Washington DC Reality Asset Division, and the Orlando Post Master was to explore, analyze and formulate a general overview of the challenges and financially feasible opportunities to renew and transform the USPS property with the Central Park Master Plan, enrich the downtown core and generate civic/cultural activities for its surrounding residents and community at large.
